Man walking in traffic fatally hit

An 18-year-old man was fatally struck while walking in lanes of traffic in Quartz Hill.

The man was walking in traffic on West Avenue L just west of 42nd Street West, near Prime Desert Woodland Preserve, just after 10:05 p.m. Sept. 25 when a 52-year-old man driving westbound struck him, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Paramedics were called to the scene and pronounced the victim dead. His name was withheld pending notification of relatives, but the CHP noted he was a resident of Lancaster.

The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with authorities, and drugs and alcohol were ruled out as factors in the collision, according to the CHP.
