In one day with two events, Lancaster residents and City of Lancaster staff were able to clean up more than 171 tons of trash.

“We are grateful to have hosted an event where community members could live out our motto of ‘Creating a better tomorrow, together,’” said Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris.  “Beautifying Lancaster certainly doesn’t happen alone. Thank you, Lancaster residents, for making this cleanup a success.”

Until next year’s cleanup, residents can continue to live in the Earth Day spirit by practicing Earth-friendly habits. Taking walks, picking up trash, and properly disposing of trash are practices that community members can regularly do to maintain Lancaster’s beauty.

Individuals, businesses, organizations, and public agencies are also welcome to participate in the TIDE-Y Up A Mile program by signing up to sponsor cleanups for a stretch of local roadway.

Residents may also check out EcoHero shows designed to show 5- to 9-year-old children how they can get involved and make an impact on the world. Topics include recycling properly: Mr. & Mrs. Eco Lancaster Bottles & Cans Earth Day; as well as not wasting food and composting: Mr. & Mrs. Eco Lancaster Organics Earth Day.
