From homeless to housing. That’s why Bridge to Home (BTH) in Santa Clarita recently held a virtual ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate improvements at their Drayton Street shelter. The event marked new sewer and water hookups and the beginning of a campaign to build a new $2.5 million new homeless shelter facility on Drayton Street.
The City of Santa Clarita’s Planning Commission has recommended the project receive approval, which will be considered in the near future by Santa Clarita City Council.
If approved, construction is expected to begin this summer, with the goal of the new shelter opening in the fall of 2022.
Officials said the facility will house 60 individuals and will have room to house eight families, which will serve as the first family shelter in the Santa ClaritaValley region.
Bridge to Home is in the midst of transitioning from a nighttime winter shelter which was only open four months a year to a year-round 24/7 facility. Officials want to offer more than food and shelter. They are adding intensive case management services to truly help unhoused neighbors transition from homelessness to permanent housing, with job preparation and other educational services.
Ultimately, BTH wants to address the issues that cause homelessness in Santa Clarita. Supervisor Kathryn Barger, who represents the fifth district in Los Angeles County said she’s proud to partner with Bridge to Home and the City of Santa Clarita to bring housing services to those experiencing
