Goodwill Southern California has launched a fund to help bolster its free employment services available to those who have experienced furloughs or layoffs as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.
“With millions of people now facing an extended period of unemployment or loss of hours due to the COVID-19 crisis, our employment services are now needed more than ever,’’ said Patrick McClenahan, president and CEO of Goodwill Southern California. “Our COVID-19 Jobs Accelerator Fund will provide critical employment services to community members in severe need due to a situation that came about suddenly and through no fault of their own.’’
Goodwill Southern California’s employment centers were designated as essential services and remain open. Employees are assisting job seekers in person at the centers, by phone or via the organization’s website: www.goodwillsocal.org.
However, Goodwill SoCal’s retail stores and donation centers, which help fund its employment programs and services, remain temporarily closed, increasing the need for monetary donations.
Goodwill has provided employment services for more than 100 years in Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Among those the organization serves are people with vocational challenges, including veterans, at-risk youth, individuals with disabilities, and those who were formerly incarcerated or are homeless.
