Incidents of hate crime are being reported more and more, and the good news is that companies as well as the government are acting on these racially motivated incidents. A White man admitted in federal court that he burned a wooden cross in an effort to frighten Black families in a small Mississippi town, CBS affiliate WLOX reports.
Graham Williamson pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Hattiesburg to interfering with housing rights and conspiring to use fire to commit a felony. Williamson admitted that he and another man, Louie Bernard Revette, burned the cross to frighten and intimidate African American residents in Seminary, Mississippi, in October 2017, federal prosecutors said Tuesday. Revette, pleaded guilty to similar charges in April and is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 5. Williamson faces up to 30 years in prison when he’s sentenced Nov. 5.
