In celebration of Independence Day, Los Angeles City Councilman Curren Price (Ninth District) will host a free, all-day family festival, culminating with a 20-minute fireworks show in Exposition Park.

The picnic-style event, which gets underway at 11 a.m. on the south lawn, will feature games and activities for the entire family, such as face painting, a rock climbing wall and inflatable jumpers. The holiday celebration will include contests and prizes for attendees, as well as a wide variety of culinary specialties and plenty of tasty treats available for purchase.

Entertainment begins at noon with live performances kicking off at 2 p.m. Come to hear one of Southern California’s most talented R&B singer-songwriters, Candice Boyd, who was a finalist from the reality television competition “The Four: Battle for Stardom.” Also featured will be Selenamos, one of the most popular Selena Quintanilla Tribute Bands in Los Angeles, West Coast Hip Hop Pioneer Rodney O, plus other special guests.

The Fourth of July community festival in the “New 9th” will conclude with one of the city’s most impressive and patriotic fireworks displays, taking place in front of the Natural History Museum around 9 p.m. Each year, the event draws tens of thousands of people. Parking will be limited. Organizers suggest you skip traffic and take Expo Line to Expo Park/USC Station. Exposition Park is across the street.

While food trucks will be nearby, small patio barbecue grills are allowed in the “designated grilling area.” No alcoholic beverages are permitted. Also, bring along a blanket or sweater for the evening.
