The Palmdale City Library’s Classics Book Club will discuss the novel “Scoop” by Evelyn Waugh, Monday, June 24, at 7 p.m., at the library, located at 700 E. Palmdale Blvd.

Originally published in 1938 and commonly recognized as one of the 100 best novels of the 20th century, “Scoop” draws on Waugh’s experience as a British journalist working for the Daily Mail newspaper to present a satiric view of the sensationalism found in journalism. The novel chronicles the story of William Boot, a nature writer who lives in the English countryside, who is sent to Africa as a foreign correspondent after being mistaken for his cousin, a popular novelist with connections to London’s fashionable elite.

The Classics Book Club meets on the fourth Monday of every month from 7 to 8 pm. New members are welcome to attend.
