Police nabbed a Black couple that was on the run for nearly 20 years in Florida this week after being on the run for sex crimes against minors.

Joseph Green, 52, and Chanel Warren, 43, were caught at a home in Plantation, Florida, a city in Broward County just south of Fort Lauderdale at 6 a.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 25). According to Plantation Police Detective Robert Rettig, the husband and wife were arrested without incident.

Green’s bail was set at $185,000 and Warren’s at $170,000.

The case had gone cold for the Los Angeles Police years ago after the pair disappeared 17 years ago. They had been charged with 13 counts of sex crimes against minors after starting a private school in South Los Angeles, where they had easy access to young and vulnerable children.

But last month, CNN featured the case on its show, “The Hunt with John Walsh.” The episode was called “School of Lies.” The FBI had become involved in the case in conjunction with the L.A. police. Once the couple’s whereabouts came to light, the Plantation Police Dept. executed the arrest warrant.

The pair ran the Enlightened Minds School, a private school where they allegedly molested minors, including a 16-year-old girl in 2000. That case led to an investigation that resulted in a number of students coming forward. The investigation also revealed that Green was a registered sex offender in the state of California. Police say Green used fake names to start the school and that is why alarms didn’t go off when the school was set up.

In addition to running the school, they also were posting ads on Craigslist soliciting sex.
