Easy passport processing

The city of Lancaster has opened a new passport processing office which so far has proven to be popular among residents. In about one month, the city had processed more than 200 passports.

The new service allows residents to have their passport pictures taken and submit processing fees locally; the $25 passport execution fee is set by the U.S. Department of State, and the city charges $10 for photo services.

To utilize the service, residents can make an appointment with the Lancaster city clerk. Next, they will be instructed to download the passport application form(s) and instructions from the State Department’s official website: www.Travel.State.Gov and complete that. Once completed, applicants can bring their forms to the city clerk’s department which will then verify the paperwork and turn it in. In four to six weeks, the new passport should arrive by mail.

The Lancaster city clerk is located at 44933 Fern Ave., on the second floor. The hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

For more details regarding the service, or to schedule an appointment, contact the Lancaster city clerk at (661) 723-6020. Passport forms, as well as information regarding how to apply, can be accessed on the State Department website for passport and travel information.
