Volunteer registration is now open for the Santa Clarita stages of the 2014 Amgen Tour of California professional cycling road race. Volunteers looking for an opportunity to participate in the high-profile, ninth annual race can apply online at Santa-Clarita.com/TourOfCA. Available positions include course marshal, security, media relations and medical control.
The 2014 Amgen Tour of California returns to the city of Santa Clarita for the sixth time in race history on Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17, 2014. Santa Clarita will serve as the host city for the start of stages 6 and 7.
The Santa Clarita Local Organizing Committee for the race is seeking 100 volunteers for the two days the Amgen Tour of California is in town. Statewide, race organizers are looking to recruit nearly 4,000 volunteers to assist with the cycling race, which kicks off in Sacramento on May 11 and will travel nearly 750 miles through 12 host cities for official stage starts and finishes before concluding on May 18 in Thousand Oaks.
Thousands of local residents and cycling aficionados plan vacations around traveling as volunteers with the race entourage, securing an incredible opportunity to observe firsthand how an international sporting event is produced, and a front-row seat to watch the top cyclists in the world compete in front of millions of fans.
“Volunteering provides and unique and fun way to experience the race,” said Mayor Laurene Weste. “When thousands of visiting fans from across the world come to Santa Clarita to experience the race, I am positive we will provide them with a first-class welcome.”
The majority of volunteers for the 2014 race will provide support for the 75 professional course marshals who travel with the tour and support local law enforcement authorities in each city. Course marshal volunteers have an opportunity to be on the race route, close to the cyclists with responsibility for monitoring pedestrian traffic, barricades and street closures.

Volunteers must be over the age of 18 or accompanied by an adult. The online sign-up form allows volunteers to rank their top-three job preferences, and every attempt is made to match the areas of interest indicated. Volunteers will be notified of their position within a few weeks of signing up online, and an orientation will be held in the weeks following.
