The city of Lancaster is accepting volunteers for a variety of projects. Here is what is available:

A special improvement project taking place on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

Volunteers will be working on the Mariposa Community Wellness Home, which offers innovative community health assistance options, while providing residents with pertinent health information, as well as a variety of health-related services.

Workers will scrape stucco, prime and paint the garage (in preparation for a coming Garden Club Kids mural project); wipe down and paint interior walls; prepare the home’s community garden for planting this spring; as well as perform overall yard maintenance.

In the years since the initial community home was opened in Lancaster, more than 2,500 people of all ages have utilized their services. The Mariposa Wellness Home was the fourth center to open in the City of Lancaster and is located at 45534 Gadsden Ave.

Volunteers will work on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and are encouraged to sign up, even if they can only give an hour or two. In the spirit of Marin Luther King Jr., serve the community and volunteer today.

The City of Lancaster is offering an opportunity to volunteer this Martin Luther King Jr. Day by helping to beautify the community garden on Elm Avenue. Workers will help decorate the garden with art and maintain existing planter beds. Volunteers can take pride in the fact that their work in the community garden will benefit the homeless as well as low-income families.

The Community Garden promotes and encourages healthy food choices among Lancaster residents. The activities and gardening classes that are hosted year-round bring neighbors together to plant, cultivate and harvest fresh fruits and vegetables.

Volunteers will work on Saturday, Jan 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 44738-1/2 Elm Ave. Interested participants are encouraged to volunteer even if only for an hour or two.
