Man pleads not guilty to kidnapping, raping mall employee

VAN NUYS, Calif. — An 18-year-old Lancaster man pleaded not guilty today to charges he kidnapped and raped a mall employee on the Fourth of July as she walked to her car at Westfield Topanga.

Kioki Ray Snowden is accused of kidnapping the 19-year-old at knifepoint, sexually assaulting her over a three-hour period and robbing her.

Snowden is charged with four counts of forcible rape, three counts of identity theft, two counts of kidnapping to commit another crime and one count each of second-degree robbery, sexual penetration by a foreign object, forcible oral copulation, sodomy by use of force and second-degree commercial burglary.

Los Angeles police detectives with the Robbery-Homicide Division arrested him July 11 and he has been jailed since.

Snowden is due back in Van Nuys Superior Court Sept. 11, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require him to stand trial.
