President Barack Obama has issued a mandate to delay for one year the implementation of the business portion of the Affordable Care Act.

This means that individuals who work for employers with 50 or more employees would not be able to secure health insurance through their jobs.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) noted that “of those who would otherwise have obtained employment-based coverage, roughly half will be uninsured (in 2014).”

The CBO also estimates that about half of the 1 million workers who would have gained employer-sponsored coverage next year will now obtain insurance through the health exchanges or via public programs including Medicaid.
