TORRANCE, Calif. — A 1-year-old female mixed breed dog was removed from an unattended SUV at a park-and-ride lot in Torrance, where the interior temperature was estimated to be 100 degrees, a county animal control spokeswoman said today.
The dog, which appeared to be part pit bull, was found in a vehicle at Tuesday afternoon on West Carson Street adjacent the Harbor (110) Freeway, where the ambient temperature was about 80 degrees, according to Evelina Villa of the county’s Department of Animal Care and Control.
The dog was given water and taken to the Carson Animal Care Center, she said.
Villa said animal control officers would pursue charges against whoever left the dog in the vehicle unattended. The registered owner, known to authorities, could be fined $100, she said.
A second offense is punishable by jail time and a fine up to $500, she said.
Because of the dog appeared to be OK, it may be returned to the owner.
