LOS ANGELES, Calif.–The Coroner’s Office today named a 97-year-old woman as the person killed in an apartment fire in Ladera Heights, which remained under investigation by sheriff’s homicide detectives.

The woman was identified as Brunetta Rhoden, 97, said Coroner’s Investigator Dana Bee.

Two other people suffered smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene of the fire, which was reported at 10:53 p.m. Friday in a unit of a multi-story structure at 6721 Springpark Ave., said Robert Diaz, a dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Rhoden was pronounced dead at Centinela Hospital Medical Center, said Coroner’s Investigator Elissa Fleak.

The fire was put out in just under an hour, Diaz said.

Members of the Los Angeles County Arson/Explosives Detail were dispatched to the scene a short time after the blaze. The Sheriff’s Headquarters issued a statement saying homicide bureau detectives were conducting an investigation into the deadly fire.

As of today, they had no new information, according to a deputy at the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.
