After a year jam-packed with tons of new talent and veterans fighting tooth and nail to hold on to their top spots as Black entertainment’s elite, the BET Awards 2012, held Sunday at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, was a must-see for those wanting to know who was going to take home the gold.

Kevin Hart is pictured holding his award for Best Actor which surprised some when he beat out heavy-hitters Denzel Washington, Idris Elba, Common, and Don Cheadle.

Less surprising was Nicki Minaj’s win for Best Female Hip Hop Artist. The rambunctious rapper has won the award for the last three years in a row and shows no sign of slowing down any time soon.

Young Money rapper Tyga suffered somewhat of an unexpected upset,. He was nominated for both Best Collaboration and the Coca Cola Viewers Choice Award, but lost out on both awards to Wale and Miguel for “Lotus Flower Bomb” and the youngsters Mindless Behavior, respectively.

They call themselves TGT, as in Tyrese, Ginuwine and Tank, and the former top-ranking R&B heartthrobs are pulling together on a new album in an effort to wear their crowns once again.

Tyrese, who seems to be the orchestrator of the group’s creation, promised that the project will be good ‘ol fashion R&B, without the infusion of techno or house music unlike today’s radio-friendly songs. It is rumored that the three will embark on a “Shirts Off Tour” later this year.

The entire award show was packed with celebrities, from the pre-parties to the after parties, so eager fans may have been able to capture a picture or two of actor and R&B crooner Jamie Foxx with actress Kerry Washington, R&B songstress Brandy and laundry list of other notables as they showed off the latest fashions on the red carpet on BET’s biggest night.
