DA won’t file charges against singer El DeBarge

Citing insufficient evidence, prosecutors have declined tofile a case against singer El DeBarge in connection with his drug-relatedarrest this week.

DeBarge was arrested Monday afternoon after officers fromthe West Valley Station saw a possible narcotics transaction at White OakAvenue north of the Ventura (101) Freeway in Encino, according to Los Angelespolice Officer Wendy Reyes.

The officers allegedly recovered narcotics from an areawhere DeBarge had been standing, Reyes said.

Police also arrested Curtis Freeman and booked him onsuspicion of

attempted narcotics possession, Reyes said.

Prosecutors also declined to file a case against Freeman,citing insufficient evidence against him.

DeBarge is best known for the Grammy-winning song “Rhythmof the Night” in the mid-1980s.
