LOS ANGELES, Calif.–A Crenshaw District man was in surgery this morning to repair a stab wound in his upper chest after his girlfriend called paramedics when he arrived home wearing a blood-soaked shirt, a police sergeant said.

The unidentified man arrived home in the 4100 block of Somerset Drive just after 5 a.m., said Sgt. Robin Brown in the Los Angeles Police Department Southwest Station.

“He fell on the couch and watched TV,” Brown said. “His girlfriend noticed his blood-soaked shirt and he told her he got into a dispute and got stabbed.”

The victim “was under the influence of something,” Brown said, and did not seem to be in pain. He has not cooperated with police.

The man was transported to California Hospital for surgery, Brown said.

There’s no word yet on his current condition.
