LOS ANGELES, Calif.–A nonprofit organization that connects parents of special needs children to support groups and specialists will expand its online database of resources to Los Angeles, thanks to a $50,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation.

Brace Kids’ directory provides information on 12,000 topics related to 50 specific childhood illnesses and conditions. It already lists resources in Long Beach, Orange County and San Francisco.

The website also translates information into 10 languages.

“Parents who have access to the Internet can go to www.bravekids.org, type in their ZIP code and immediately find health services, support groups, financial assistance and other resources for their child’s illness,” said Kristen Fitzgerald, founder and executive director of Brave Kids.

The Verizon Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Verizon Communications.
