Los Angeles, CA — The month of May is Women’s Month at the Los Angeles Third Church of Religious Science. The theme, “Women on Higher Ground” was chosen by the chair and associate minister of LA Third, Reverend Lisa Meggs. Women’s Month is traditionally dedicated to the support, education and service of women and  female teens in our community.

The women “have their say” Sundays are at the 9 & 11 a.m. services and Wednesdays at the 7 p.m. service. Guest speakers include Dr. Clara Mosely, Dr. Jane Galloway, Rev. B.J. Moore, Rev. Dee James, Rev. Lisa Meggs, Dr. Alexina Hazzard, Dr. Eve Allen and Naimah. Services are supported by the top notch talents of Brenda Lee Eager & the Heaven On Earth Choir, The LA Third Praise Ensemble, and soloists Beverly Brewster and Ellen Cooper, under the musical direction of Ron Bishop.

Saturday, May 2, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. is the Women on Higher Ground Opening Ceremony with a keynote address by Rev. Lisa Meggs, and includes self-inquiry, visioning, journaling, meditation, movement and sharing. A reading from Yvette Heyliger’s hit stage play, “What Would Jesus Do?” will be performed by Dr. Ronnie Jones (making his theatrical debut) and actress, Yvonne Farrow (Grey’s Anatomy, Alias); as well as the play’s original song, featuring composer Larry Farrow on piano and songstress Tameron Butler.

Sunday, May 3, 1-3 p.m. is the annual LA Third Ladies Tea held at Lucy Florence Cultural Center, 3351 43rd St. (at Degnan). Tickets are $20 in advance (preferred) or $25 at the door. Special discounts for the cabaret show, “Bananas” are available.

Saturday, May 30, 9 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. is the inner/outer spa day for women (18 and up) and teens (ages 13-17) entitled, “Women, Let’s Talk About It!”  The day includes discussions on health, hygiene, nutrition, massage, etiquette and inner beauty. Guest speakers include Rev. Kim Edmonds, Dr. Regina Edmonds OB-GYN, Practitioner Tina Parish and Naimah. Also featured is special guest speaker, Danny Willis, a Fashion Fair Cosmetics’ skincare and make-up expert.

Each Sunday, as well as at the Saturday workshops, donations of household goods and clothing will be accepted for the Good Shepherd Shelter for Battered Women with Children. Bring any useful items (in good condition) to assist courageous women and children who are healing from domestic violence and starting anew.

Located at 4323 Leimert Blvd. in Los Angeles, all activities (save the Tea) will take place at the church.

Pastor Ronnie Jones is LA Third’s spiritual leader for more than 20 years. All programs at the church are free, but registration is required. Early registration for the 9 & 11 a.m. services is recommended.
