Police searched Tuesday for the gunman who shot and killed a 71-year-old woman and wounded two others in the front yard of a Pomona home.
After receiving several reports of a shooting in front of the home, Pomona police went to a residence in the 700 block of Mayfire Avenue around 9:30 a.m.
When officers arrived, three victims were lying in the front yard, including Pomona resident Florence Anderson, who suffered wounds to her upper body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Calvin Wimbley, 36, and a 17-year-old boy were hurt in the shooting. Both were taken to a hospital where they are expected to survive. The boy was Wimbley’s son, according to police.
“She’s a person that helps many people, alcoholics, drug addicts…She said that’s what God called her to do,” said a woman identified as Anderson’s daughter.
The woman, who declined to give her name, said that she believed gang members were involved in the shooting of her mother. “Someone needs to take a stand and stop the gang violence,” she said.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Pomona Police Department’s tip line at (909) 620-2085.
