Brookins AME hosts Judge Doyle

“On Saturday, June 7, at 11 a.m., our Mesereau-Ephriam-Villaraigosa (MEV) Free Legal Clinic will present Judge Doyle of the L.A. County Superior Court who will discuss dispute resolution. Then on Sunday, June 8, at 3 p.m., we will join with the City of Los Angeles in a street renaming ceremony for our church founder, Bishop H. Hartford Brookins. We invite the greater Los Angeles community to join us for both events,” said Rev. Dr. Murph.
Doyle, who serves in Burbank, will discuss community peace-building, mediation in multicultural settings, and alternatives to court-involved disputes. Previously an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Doyle received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and his J.D. from University of California Hastings College of Law. The MEV clinic is located in Brookins Community Development Center, 1900 West 48th Street in Los Angeles.
Bishop Brookins founded the Brookins Community A.M.E. Church in 1977 while serving as the presiding prelate of the 5th Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Church. Known internationally as a dynamic preacher, church builder and social activist, Brookins started the church to meet the immediate needs of the residents of South Los Angeles. Prior to being elected bishop, he served as pastor of First A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles where he relocated the church to its present location and built its present multi-million dollar sanctuary. During his tenure as an active bishop, he served in the 2nd, 5th, 12th, 13th and 17th Districts before retiring in 2004.
