In addition to entertainment and education, the museum offers exhibitions like the Age of Mammals, the Dinosaur Hall, the Gem and Mineral Hall, and dioramas.
With Earth Day upon us, it is important that we take advantage of local opportunities to educate the general public on environmental issues and how to best serve the world around us. On Sunday, April 21, the Natural History Museum will be celebrating Earth Day with events and activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Natural History Museum is located at 900 Exposition Blvd.
Some of the events that are taking place on that day are the museum collections which will explore displays from the Entomology, Ichthyology, Mammology, Ornithology, and Polychaetes department. Garden exploration will be available with the Horticulture team and a scavenger hunt will result in a prize for the lucky winner.
There will also be a Spongebob DNA Disco, where children and adults can explore Spongebob’s biodiverse world with a hand-powered DNA machine. Spongebob and Patrick Star will be available for photo opportunities. Next up will be a Searching for Treasures Under the Sea, attendees will gather around an above-ground seabed to find treasures under the sand, and everyone will walk away with a treasure to keep.
Attendees can make their own native seed balls, which will help insects thrive and support local pollinators. There will also be nature journals and plant sketching. Visitors can make simple journals and practice sketching plants. Participants can learn tips for starting a nature journal or drawing techniques, materials will be provided.
