Important youth awareness campaign
The City of Palmdale is launching the Youth Multimedia Fentanyl Awareness Challenge, a contest for young community members to use their creative talents to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and drug overdose.
Palmdale middle and high school students are invited to lend their voices to this cause by submitting original songs, artwork, poetry or video public service announcements (PSAs).
“We are confident the younger generation has the power to shift the current trend of rising fentanyl-related deaths and overdoses that are plaguing both our nation and local community,” said Palmdale Mayor Austin Bishop. “We’re offering this challenge as a creative way for them to spread awareness and take a stand against the use of fentanyl and illegal substances.”
Generous prizes await the most impactful submissions, and the winning pieces will be prominently featured on the city’s website and YouTube channel.
The winning entries in the middle school student category are $400 for the best video PSA, $300 for the top original song, $200 for the finest artwork, and $100 for the winning poem. For high school students, prizes in the same categories are set at $600, $450, $350, and $200, respectively.
“This challenge is more than just a competition; it’s an opportunity to make a lasting impact on our community,” said Palmdale Mayor Pro Tem Richard Loa. “Together, we can raise awareness, prevent overdoses and create a safer, healthier Palmdale for future generations.”
