Charges against man in death of local toddler

Girlfriend’s three-year-old son

The District Attorney’s office has announced charges against Rena Naulls in the alleged killing of his girlfriend’s three-year-old son on Feb. 20 at her Lancaster home.

“My heart is broken for the toddler whose life was taken before he even had a chance to live,” said Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón. “Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family during this unimaginably difficult time. We will pursue justice for the victim and his family with unwavering determination.”

Rena Lydell Naulls, 39, is charged on one count of murder, one count of assault on a child causing death and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. 

It is further alleged that in the commission and attempted commission of the crime, Naulls personally used a knife, and that the crime involved great violence, great bodily harm, threat of great bodily harm and other acts disclosing a high degree of cruelty, viciousness, and callousness.

Naulls is scheduled to be arraigned April 24 in Dept. A01 at the Antelope Valley Courthouse.

On Feb. 20, Naulls was allegedly at the mother’s home with the three-year-old victim and his three siblings. Naulls allegedly killed the boy with a knife.

Naulls is being held on $3,245,000 bail.

If convicted as charged, he will face a maximum sentence of life in prison.

The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
