‘A Tribute to Curtis Mayfield’
A list of exciting and entertaining acts are on tap at the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center. In particular, th bi-monthly vocal workshops are held every first and third Wednesday of the month. The next vocal workshop will take place on March 20 between 7 p.m.-9 p.m. The cost of the workshop is $15 per class.
Legendary Nights presents “Prophet of Soul- A Tribute to Curtis Mayfield and Donny Hathaway” on March 24. The performance will be starring Torrence BRANNON & his Everything with Soul Band with vocalists Arlando, Phajah Dawn, and Faliesha Diamond. Community Tap Class- Every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. The next community tap class will take place on March 27 beginning at 6:30 P.M. Tap classes are hosted by the Blue Violin Classes. The cost of the tap class is $15.00. To register email info@blueviolinclasses.com.
Spoken Word Art and Music (S.W.A.A.M.)- First and third Fridays of every month. The next Spoken Word Art and Music is on April 5. The cost of the Spoken Word Art and Music is $15 per person. In addition to Spoken Word Art, there will be an open mic, live band, food, drinks and an incredible featured partner.
The Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center, 4305 Degnan Blvd. #101 in Leimert Park, was established in 2009. Barbara Morrison was a prolific Black jazz musician who passed away in 2022. In 1986, Morrison toured with the Philip Morris Superband and worked with music luminaries like Gerald Wilson, Dizzy Gillespie and Ray Charles. Morrison performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Nice, Pori, Carnegie Hall, North Sea, Darling Harbour, Sydney Opera House, Monterey, Long Beach, and in tributes to Benny Golson.
