Three men were charged this week with murder in connection with a man’s shooting death in Long Beach last November in what detectives said they believe was a gang-related killing.

Jose Ramos, 20, of Lancaster; Adonis Reese, 18, of Long Beach; and Joshua Spencer-Morgan, 20, of Long Beach, are set to be arraigned March 27 on a murder charge, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Ramos is also charged with one count of grand theft of an automobile, while Reese was also charged with one count of driving or taking a vehicle without consent and Spencer-Morgan was charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

The three were arrested by Long Beach police on March 7 in the Nov. 26, 2023 killing of Andre McClendon, 41, of Long Beach.

McClendon was shot at about 2:20 a.m. that day near the 1700 block of Pine Avenue, and died at the scene, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

“While the investigation remains ongoing, at this time, homicide detectives believe the motive to be gang-related,” the LBPD said in a statement released shortly after the arrests were made.

Two women were arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to murder and arson, but the status of any case against them was not immediately clear.

Emily Castaneda, 20, of Compton, and Angelica Esquivel, 24, of Long Beach, were released on $50,000 bond a day after they were taken into custody, according to jail records.
