Will serve in position for six months
The City of Compton has appointed Jerry Groomes as the new interim city manager. The Compton City Council voted to appoint Mr. Groomes into the temporary position on Tuesday, July 11. Groomes brings an impressive career of nearly four decades in local government and a proven track record of success to our city.
“My fellow City Council members and I are honored to welcome Jerry Groomes as the Interim City Manager of Compton. With his extensive experience and proven track record in public administration, we are confident that Jerry will bring invaluable expertise and leadership to our city,” said Compton Mayor Emma Sharif. “We are happy to have him serve in this crucial role and assist us in the search for a permanent City Manager. Mr. Groomes’ guidance will be instrumental in ensuring a smooth transition and continued progress for the City of Compton.”
As a seasoned public administrator, Jerry Groomes has made significant contributions to the communities he has served on the East and West coasts. Mr. Groomes has nearly 40 years of experience, which include previously serving as the city manager for East Palo Alto and Carson. His expertise consulting and working in both big cities and smaller municipalities has resulted in major economic development impacts, fostering growth and prosperity for the citizens he has served.
Groomes previously served as the interim city manager for Compton in 2016. His prior experience in city grants provide him with valuable insights into the specific needs and aspirations of the Compton community.
“I am delighted to return to Compton and serve as the city manager for the next six months,” Groomes said. “I will do all that I can to help our city thrive and work diligently to find a permanent City Manager who will bring and inspire positive change and prosperity in Compton.”
