Musical lovers will open their schedule up on Dec. 17, from 4 pm to 6 pm at Los Angeles’ Founder’s Church, 3281 W. 6th Street, for the first live performance by the Afroclassical Composers since the epidemic started. This non-profit organization was founded to celebrate the contributions of African-American and other African Diaspora classical music composers.
The event will feature the music of AfroClassical Composers Dorothy Rudd-Moore, George Walker, R. Nathaniel Dett, and Maria Thompson Corley. The compositions will be performed on piano by Maria Thompson Corley and Presenting AfroClassical Composers’ Executive Director Michael Ligon. The event will also feature a panel of experts discussing the impact of AfroClassical Composers and related disciplines.
Each performance will be framed by performers and expert panelists from Music, Ethnomusicology, Architecture, Visual Arts, Dance, Literature, Sociology, History, or other complementary disciplines, enabling audiences to discuss the social context and broad historical and cultural influences on featured compositions and composers.
