WNBA basketball player Tiffany Jackson, who played for the Los Angeles Sparks, has died after a battle with breast cancer. She was 37.
The University of Texas, where Jackson was a three-time All-American for the women’s basketball team, announced her death Monday. She played for the Longhorns from 2003 to 2007, won a Texas high school state championship in 2003, and was the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year.
She played for one season with the Sparks, her final year in the WNBA in 2017. Jackson spent nine seasons in the WNBA, playing for the New York Liberty and Tulsa Shock. The 6-foot-3 forward was the No. 5 overall pick by the Liberty in the 2007 WNBA draft.
She was diagnosed with cancer while playing for the Shock in 2015. She retired from the WNBA in 2017 when she was 32.
Jackson was the head coach at Wiley College, an NAIA school in Marshall, Tex., when she died.
