Clark Atlanta University has received a $10 million grant to advance its students in a specific program, reports AfroTech/WSB TV. The money awarded to the Historically Black College & University will make data science accessible by creating a program under the National Data Science Alliance (NDSA). In five years, “the NDSA will expand the number of Black people earning data science credentials by no fewer than 20,000.”
“This is a monumental accomplishment for the HBCU community as a whole. Clark Atlanta has deep roots in conducting data science research that promotes equity, including the semi works of scholar and former faculty member W.E. B. Du Bois on these hallowed grounds,” said Clark Atlanta President George T. French, Jr.
In addition, NDSA will work with other HBCUs to secure academic partnerships to spike engagement and encourage equity-based findings in data science. More minority groups in the field can ensure findings are not led by cognitive bias.
