As of June 21, the tally for ballots cast in the primary election have Rep. Karen Bass leading Rick Caruso in votes, 43.14 percent to 35.98 percent. As they prepare for the November 8 general election, Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis has endorsed Bass for mayor of Los Angeles.

“There is only one person in the mayor’s race who has the crisis-tested leadership to ensure that we get people inside and housed—Karen Bass,” said Solis. “Karen and I have a long history of working together. I’ve seen her fight for the Latino community and all other communities here in Los Angeles. The resources she has delivered in Washington, DC have played a pivotal role on the ground fighting the homelessness crisis—especially her work fighting to prevent our county’s foster youth from falling into homelessness. I am so proud to endorse a true Los Angeles leader who has fought for the people her entire life.”

“I’m honored to have this endorsement,” said Rep. Karen Bass (D-37). “Supervisor Solis has worked tirelessly to address the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles. The only way we can combat this crisis is by working together at the city and county level. There should be no daylight between us—we must work together hand in glove. I look forward to continuing to work together with the county to ensure that we deliver for the people of Los Angeles.

Solis represents communities across Los Angeles, including Boyle Heights, Chinatown, Eagle Rock, Thai Town, Little Tokyo, Downtown, Little Armenia, Historic Filipinotown, El Sereno, Lincoln Heights and East Hollywood. Prior to her election to the Board of Supervisors, Solis served as the 25th United States Secretary of Labor from 2009 to 2013, as part of the administration of President Barack Obama.

Solis served in the United States House of Representatives from 2001 to 2009, representing East Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley. Prior to being elected to Congress, Solis served six years in the California State Senate and two years in the California State Assembly.
