A new program at LA County parks is helping to refuel the mental wellbeing and social connection of residents through free drop-in activities at sunset throughout the month of May.

Through the “Parks at Sunset” program, residents can join activities at sunset including meditation, yoga, dance jams, and canvas painting for free and with no reservations.

The program is managed by the County’s Department of Parks and Recreation and is in partnership with the Department of Mental Health’s efforts for Mental Health Awareness month in May.

Jesse Owens Park; Col. Leon H. Washington Park; Earvin Magic Johnson Park;  Enterprise Park; Mona Park; Ted Watkins Park; and Victoria Park  are participating. For a full list of participating park locations visit https://tinyurl.com/yzws7ucc.

The program provides access to caring staff, places to reflect and restore, and spaces for positive human development.

Recreation programming that occurs during out-of-school-time offers mental, physical and social benefits to children’s development and can reduce the toxic stress associated with adverse early childhood experiences, such as COVID-19.
