Chozen Terrell-Hannah may have gotten in trouble with the law thanks to a pair of sneakers he wore on TikTok, reports the Detroit Press/AfroTech. The 22-year-old TikTok star has been arrested in connection with a series of robberies in the greater Detroit metro area.

But there might be an issue with his arrest. According to the Detroit Prss, eyewitnesses to the robberies described the suspect as a White man — and Chozen Terrell-Hannah is a Black man.

However, the arresting FBI task officer claimed that other eyewitness accounts of the suspect point directly to Chozen Terrell-Hannah.

“Based on my training and experience, I believe due to (Terrell-Hannah’s) light complexion, the victims of armed robberies, observing him under the circumstances and wearing the clothing described above, could describe him as either White or Black,” the FBI task force officer wrote.

Regardless, he’s being held without bond pending a hearing later Tuesday in a federal court. The charges against the star include robbery affecting interstate commerce and possessing a firearm during a violent crime. If he’s convicted of all four crimes, he could be sentenced to more than 20 years in prison.

The robberies began on Dec. 1, 2021 at a Detroit area 7-Eleven. Witnesses to the crime claim that the perpetrator was wearing black pants, a black hooded sweatshirt, a black ski mask and white shoes, and carrying a black backpack decorated with pink flowers. He held up the store at gunpoint, took the money and ran.

One month later, someone wearing a similar outfit and carrying a similar backpack robbed a gas station at gunpoint in the same way.

All in all, four stores were hit in this series of armed robberies.

With almost 150,000 followers on his TikTok account, 22-year-old Chozen Terrell-Hannah has made a name for himself by making colorful videos featuring outrageous colors and trendy dances.

And it was, in fact, Terrell-Hannah’s colorful shoes that got him nabbed for the four robberies.

Law enforcement officials told WYNN-FM that it was his Nike sneakers with red accents — prominently featured in many of his videos, including the one above — that led them right to his front door.

“After receiving a tip about his Nike sneakers with red accents, police received a tip about the TikToker police started surveilling, Terrell-Hannah, on February 9th. Soon after, a warrant for his location data proved to be enough confirmation for the police to arrest him.”
