Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is partnering with Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE-LA) to host a COVID-19 free vaccination and Black History Month art show event from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 at the L.A. Alpha House, 3712 W. 54th St.
According to the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health, only 59.8 percent of the Black population have one dose of the covid vaccine and only 54.5 percent are fully vaccinated.
To bring vaccination awareness and access, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Beta Psi Lambda Chapter and members of their youth mentoring program, the Alpha Esquires, are partnering with CORE, Health Net, 986 Pharmacy, and the View Park Section of the National Council of Negro Women to host the event where locals can receive the COVID-19 vaccine while they view a Black History Month art show, listen to music, enjoy good food, and support local Black-owned businesses.
“One of CORE-LA’s focuses is to increase the vaccination rate in communities that have lower vaccination rates, and that happens to be 90043.” said Sean Allen, chapter president. “In addition to increasing the vaccination rates, we also want to make sure that we’re supporting local businesses.”
Attendees can receive the first or second dose of vaccines, or they can receive booster doses. An art show will feature artist Robert Hayes III, and attendees can enjoy limited free food from Nay’s Tacos and Famously Fit.
