Mayor Eric Garcetti and LA Parks launched the winter season for youth and adaptive sports after a delay due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles County.  All indoor and outdoor sports have resumed and registration is open for spring soccer, baseball, volleyball and softball, which will begin in April.

“Team sports offer more than just fun and exercise — they are an opportunity to learn and grow. This is why it’s so important that we offer sports to all young Angelenos, no matter their zip code or physical ability,” said Garcetti. “I am excited to once again launch PlayLA and offer young people in our city a safe place to participate in sports.”

The department will continue to prioritize the health and safety of staff, program participants, park guests, and team members by implementing the following guidelines recommended by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health:

• Use and strategic placement of fans to improve

ventilation in areas where moderate to high

risk activities are occurring.

• Employees and volunteers are required to wear

surgical-style disposable masks or an N-95

mask during scheduled work shifts.

• Participants of indoor sports age 12 and up

must be fully vaccinated; Participants of

indoor sports under the age of 12 who are not

fully vaccinated are required to provide weekly

negative test results.

• Masks and distancing are required for every

one participating in indoor activities.

“The department understands that sports are critical to the health and well being of our youth and families and we are committed to doing everything we can to provide a safe and enjoyable environment”, said Mike Shull, general manager. “I am proud and fortunate to be a part of a dedicated team of recreation professionals including our park rangers, maintenance and construction team, who are working courageously and relentlessly so that families feel safe when partaking in our recreational programs.”

PlayLA is an initiative that provides affordable and accessible sports programming to young Angelenos of all abilities. Registration for the PlayLA spring season is now open for youth, ages 5-17. The cost of participation is $10 per person. For more information or to register, visit LAParks.org/PlayLA.
