L.A. County Parks invites community members to sign up for a virtual or in-person recreational activity. It’s not too late to join the new slate of summer classes for all ages.

From Afro-Brazilian dancing to building a solar-powered vehicle, mastering Instagram to exploring the multicultural experience of Ttkana’, there are virtual classes to enjoy from the comfort of home, as well as in-person classes at local parks or recreation centers.

L.A. County resident June Jones enrolled in the Community Improv class in March, hoping the online course would bring a welcome diversion from the restrictions of the pandemic. Jones, 62, said she discovered a world of joy, led by her instructor Stephen Gillikin.

“Stephen is a great human being. He’s funny, he knows his stuff and he really cares about people,” Jones said. “Teaching comes so natural for him. I appreciate everything he has done for us. Especially during the pandemic, when so many people have been depressed by being stuck in the house. He has a gift, and his class has been a lifesaver for so many people.”

L.A. Parks offers a diverse range of classes and activities, including Arts and Culture; Computers and Technology; Exercise and Fitness; Health and Wellness; Martial Arts; Performing Arts; Music and Dance; Special Interest; and Sports.

Whether searching for a new hobby, looking to be more active or wanting to better connect with the community, L.A. County Parks has a suitable class or activity!

The online registration system allows participants to manage everyone’s schedule through a single household account. Sign up for late summer classes from a smartphone or computer. Make sure to check the start date, location, and registration requirements prior to enrolling in class.

Instructors and their students will be required to wear masks during all outdoor classes, regardless of their vaccination status. Students must continue to maintain 6 feet of distance during class instruction. Follow these guidelines for indoor instruction as well.
