Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) Dean C. Logan announced the candidate filing period is open for the Sept. 14 California Gubernatorial Recall Election.

Candidates looking to file may request to receive their paperwork from the Norwalk Headquarters. The RR/CC offices remain closed to combat the spread of COVID-19. All candidates must call (800) 815-2666, option 4 to set an in-person appointment or to coordinate the alternative issuing methods.

To qualify as a gubernatorial replacement candidate in California, one must collect 7,000 valid signatures of registered voters or pay a filing fee of approximately $4,200.

The deadline to return completed paperwork for the Recall Election is Friday, July 16. Candidates running for office are encouraged to review the candidate information at https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/upcoming-elections/2021-ca-gov-recall.

Following last week’s announcement from the Lt. Governor on the date of the upcoming attempted recall of Gov. Gavin Newsom, LA California Democratic Party Chair Mark Gonzalez issued the following statement:

“Today, as millions of Americans get ready for a weekend celebrating the birth of our nation, we’re reminded that Republicans will stop at nothing to thwart democracy and overturn the will of voters when they don’t get their way. With September 14th as our target date for what we know will be a failed recall attempt, we welcome the opportunity to remind voters how Governor Newsom and his team continues to lead strategically the 5th largest economy in the world, worked to protect 39 million Californians during a pandemic, and the work Democrats are doing every day on behalf of our state.”
