The South Los Angeles non-profit organization Community Coalition (CoCo) continues to contribute to the social justice movement by investing in the next generation of young leaders. CoCo has been advocating and organizing African-American and Latinx youth for the last 30 years and is arranging its third Community Organizing Fellowship for eight to 10 individuals, which will start on June 21 and will continue throughout August 13.
The eight to 10 chosen fellows will make up a diverse group of individuals contributing to the social justice movement. They will receive in-depth training in the proposition of social movement history, social change, and the art and science of community organizing through hands-on application in base-building efforts in South LA.
The eight-week fellowship expects individuals to complete 40 hours a week during the period of the program, where they will have the chance to learn about community organizing through field practice, as well as engagement with organizing experts.
This experience will teach fellows how to apply power-building strategies to help out a base of residents committed to the transformation of social and economic conditions in South LA.
The deadline for applications is May 26, before noon. Early applicants, who apply by Sunday, May 16, will be considered for an interview between May 20 and May 24. Applicants who apply between May 17 and May 26, will be considered for an interview between June 1 and June 3. CoCo encourages individuals to submit their applications earlier by the priority deadline of May 16, to increase a higher chance of being selected.
