“We stand in solidarity with Council President [Nury] Martinez for speaking out on the systemic and misogynistic verbal abuse she and far too many women leaders in our city have endured,” The L.A. Commission on the Status of Women stated in their recent release.

“The disproportionate amount of vitriol towards women leaders is unacceptable but more important to point out, it is dangerous.

“These verbal attacks can incite and result in life threatening consequences. The pandemic has exposed the deep gender inequities in our society and women are experiencing unprecedented setbacks. Now more than ever, we cannot allow misogyny to go unchecked. We see it, we hear it and we do not condone it”.

This motion was passed Feb. 18 by the Commission. This statement was passed unanimously in response to a video Martinez posted on social media of misogynistic verbal abuse she and other women leaders have repeatedly endured.
