Compton College’s annual month-long celebration each February in observance of Black History Month honors the achievements by black Americans and brings awareness to their significant role in U.S. history.
This year’s celebration will take place virtually with a variety of events being offered via Zoom. Members of the community are invited to attend any or all of Compton College’s virtual events celebrating Black History Month free of charge.
The virtual events are sponsored by the Office of Student Development and Associated Student Body, Compton College’s Black History Month celebration.
Movie Showings & Discussions:
“13th” a Netflix original documentary by Ava DuVernay on February 2 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
“Black Hollywood: They’ve Gotta Have Us” Netflix docuseries on February 4 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.
Race Matters Series:
“The American Equity Gambit: A Calculated Move” with Dr. Abram Milton, counselor at California State University, Northridge, on February 19 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
“How Free is My Speech: Racial Inequalities within the First Amendment” with Kyla Baron, adjunct instructor at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, on February 23 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
