A judge has granted a request by the 21-year-old daughter of the late film director John Singleton for a monthly allowance of $2,780, plus an additional $4,150 to study abroad, to be paid from her father’s estate.
Under Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Gus May’s ruling, 21-year-old Cleopatra Singleton will receive the monthly allowance retroactive to May. She will continue being paid until her father’s estate is settled, but a further court order also could halt the payments.
In her court papers, Cleopatra Singleton said she needed the allowance to help her pay her cell phone, utility and other bills.
Singleton died April 29 at age 51 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He had gone to the hospital complaining of leg pain and suffered a massive stroke on April 17. His family said they removed him from life support 12 days later.
Singleton was nominated for two Academy Awards for writing and directing 1991’s “Boyz N’ the Hood.’’ His other films include “Poetic Justice,’’ “Higher Learning,’’ “Shaft’’ and “2 Fast 2 Furious.’’
He was also the creator and executive producer of the FX drama series “Snowfall.’’
