Tonight at 8 p.m., the Palmdale Playhouse, located at 38334 10th St. East, will host a special screening of the George A. Romero classic horror film, “Night of the Living Dead.”

At the time of its release, “Night of the living Dead” achieved an unprecedented level of realistic gore and grotesquerie for creature-feature fans. It is now regarded as a cult classic by film scholars and critics despite being heavily criticized upon its release for its explicit gore. Released in 1968 in black and white, the film’s budget was only $114,000 but grossed $12 million in the U.S. alone, and $18 million internationally.

The story revolves around seven people who are holed up in a farmhouse in rural western Pennsylvania which is besieged by a large and growing group of “living dead” creatures.

“Come out for a night of trilling fun when the dead come to life and eat the living,” Palmdale Recreation Supervisor Annie Pagliaro said.

A zombie costume contest will be held immediately after the movie with prizes awarded for first, second, and third place winners.

Tickets are available at www.palmdaleplayhouse.com and are $5 for all ages.
