The Palmdale City Library, 700 E. Palmdale Blvd., will host the next meeting of the African American Authors Book Club to discuss the novel “Bring on the Blessings” by Beverly Jenkins on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 6:45 p.m.

The first novel in the Blessings series by bestselling multicultural romance author Beverly Jenkins, “Bring on the Blessings” follows 52-year-old wealthy former social worker Bernadine Brown, who is looking for purpose after divorcing her husband of thirty years for having an affair.

Upon hearing that Henry Adams, Kansas, one of the last surviving towns founded by freed slaves after the Civil War, is on the verge of bankruptcy and has been put up for sale, Bernadine decides to use her multimillion dollar divorce settlement to buy it in order to preserve its legacy and give it a new purpose as a haven for foster children. She quickly comes to learn, however, that she will need to win the support of the townspeople if her dreams are to become a reality.

The African-American Authors Book Club meets the third Tuesday of every month at 6:45 p.m. New members are welcome to attend.

The Palmdale City Library is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
