‘The Sheltering Sky’ at Classics Book Club

The Palmdale City Library’s Classics Book Club will discuss the novel “The Sheltering Sky”  by Paul Bowles, at 7 p.m. Monday, July 22, at the library, l00 E. Palmdale Blvd.

Originally published in 1949, “The Sheltering Sky” was the debut novel of American composer Paul Bowles, who went on to become a celebrated author and spent most of his life living in Morocco.

The novel, which follows three Americans on their journey through the North African desert following World War II, remains Bowles’ best known work and examines how people interact with and respond to cultures different from their own.

The Classics Book Club meets on the fourth Monday of every month from 7 to 8 p.m. New members are welcome to attend.

The Palmdale City Library is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
