A young man was shot and killed earlier this week outside a market in the South Los Angeles area. The killer remained at large at press time.

The man died at the scene of the shooting, which occurred about 2 am. at Happy Shoppers Market at 64th Street and Vermont Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office withheld the name of the victim, pending notification of his next of kin. Arthur Jackson told KTLA5 the victim was his grandson, 18-year-old Monte Bowman.

“Nice young man, my clone, my first grandson,” Jackson said of Bowman. “I love him very much, and I wish none of this would have happened.”

The suspect or suspects fled and were being sought. Anyone with information on the crime is urged to call 877-LAPD-247.
