The coroner’s office this week released the name of an intruder who was shot dead by a resident after getting inside a home in Lancaster, apparently via a downstairs rear window.

Michael Lashomb, a 27-year-old homeless man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting, which occurred Sunday morning in the 45100 block of Loma Vista Drive, according to coroner’s spokeswoman Sarah Ardalani. He suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Deputies were sent to the home at 6:43 a.m. in response to a “burglary now, person shot” call, according to the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

A family was inside the home and heard loud banging noises. A family member then entered the upstairs bedroom, where  “fearing for his safety and the safety of his children, the resident armed himself with a handgun and fired one shot, striking the suspect,” according to a sheriff’s statement.

No residents were injured.
