When the story about “Empire” actor and singer Jussie Smollett being assaulted with racial and homophobic slurs and physical abuse first broke, most people seemed to be shocked by the allegations. He reportedly said two men he believed were White stopped him, threw a chemical on him and placed a noose on his neck on a street in Chicago late one night.
As the investigation developed, police detained and questioned two Nigerian brothers who eventually claimed Smollett paid them to stage the incident. Police then arrested Smollett and he was fired from his role on the hit television series “Empire.” Despite Smollett’s arrest, a lot of people, especially in the LGBQT community, stood by him and expressed support, while others condemned his actions of allegedly falsifying a police reports, reportedly to gain a bigger salary from the producers of “Empire.”
