Authorities this week began a search in a Santa Clarita neighborhood for a man with a gun who fled while deputies were conducting a parole-compliance check.

The search began late Tuesday morning near Seco Canyon Road and Guadilmar Drive, and was continuing after 1 p.m., according to the sheriff’s department. Seco Canyon Road was closed between Pamplico and Decoro drives.

The man was described as being in his mid-20s, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, with a medium build and dark-colored clothing, and possibly wearing jeans.

Primetime Preschool at Santa Clarita Park was initially placed on lockdown, while Arroyo Seco Junior High and Santa Clarita Elementary were placed on “soft lockdown” status, during which students were put on a rainy day-type schedule—doing indoor activities—and deputies watched perimeters of the campuses.
