The Los Angeles Continuum of Care, an umbrella organization coordinating homeless services in the county, was awarded this week nearly $115 million by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, an increase of $19.4 million over last year’s allocation.
“These funds continue the support for critically needed permanent supportive housing,” said Peter Lynn, executive director of the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority. “They will enable LAHSA and its partner agencies to expand services for the most vulnerable chronically homeless populations.”
The Los Angeles Continuum of Care includes all cities in Los Angeles County except Glendale, Long Beach and Pasadena. The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority annually prepares and submits the funding application to HUD on behalf of the continuum.
“We are tremendously grateful to HUD and its Office of Special Needs Assistance Programs (SNAPS) for making available this critical funding,” Lynn said. “Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of staff, LAHSA and its partners are able to provide uninterrupted service to clients.”
LAHSA is a joint powers authority of the city and county of Los Angeles, created in 1993 to address the problems of homelessness in the county.
